Is Your Car Too Hot? Here’s How To Cool It Down

Most people in Omaha, Nebraska, look forward to the summertime. Temperatures are warmer, the sun is out, and outdoor activities beckon. With these months comes some challenges, however. One of the biggest is how to keep the interior of your car feeling cooler. No one wants to ride around town feeling sweaty, sticky, and muggy. Even on the hottest days, there are some effective ways to bring down the heat and feel comfortable and pleasant behind the wheel or passenger seat.

Have a Pro Inspect and Tune-up the Air Conditioner

In decades past, not all vehicles came with an air conditioner. Today, this feature is standard, and it’s a welcome one for sure. Air conditioners can quickly cool down interiors, even in cars that have been sitting in the sun for hours. Although, like anything else in your vehicle, it can start to wear out and fail. Before the temperatures rise too high, it’s a good idea to take your car to a professional. Technicians can check out the air conditioner and spot any current or emerging problems. If you notice that the air coming out of the vents isn’t cool or that the air is weak or cuts out, have a mechanic look at the system right away.

Park in the Shade or a Garage, If Possible

The temperature in the shade versus out of the shade can be significantly lower. Hopefully, your home has a garage or at least a carport that shade the vehicle from the sun’s intense rays. If you don’t have access to these luxuries, try to park your car under a tree or on the street in a way that some shade is hitting it. When you are out and about at the store or other places, park facing away from the sun and take advantage of any shade you can find.

Use a Sunshade or Visor

This simple product can keep your car from getting stiflingly hot in the summer. It takes just a second to place one of these on the dash inside the front window. Your dashboard, steering wheel, and seats will stay nice and cool too. On the hottest days, you might want to try one in the back window.

Roll Down the Windows Slightly

For a cooler vehicle, airflow is critical. This won’t happen when all the windows are sealed tightly all day. Keeping windows down might be a security risk, but lowering them ever-so-slightly can make a big difference. If you can’t fit your arm through the window, would-be thieves are much less likely to bother trying to get into the vehicle.

You don’t have to suffer this summer with unbearable temperatures inside your car. Try out these tricks so you can enjoy every trip. And when it’s time to upgrade to a new ride, come out and visit us here at O’Daniel Honda in Omaha, Nebraska. We’ll help you find the perfect vehicle to drive home.
