Skincare Tips For The Summer

When the temperatures rise, and the sun starts to shine more, it’s a lot more appealing to get outdoors. You’ll also sport short-sleeve shirts and shorts to feel stylish and comfortable. Of course, you’ll want to take care of your skin as you start to expose more of it to the sun. Check out these ways to take good care of your skin as you’re out and about.

Take Advantage of the Shade

As much as some people like to take advantage of more sunshine, it’s not all that beneficial to your skin. To protect it from sun damage, do all you can to shield your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. This doesn’t mean you have to stay cooped up in the house all summer. Although, when you do head outside, spend as much time in the shade as you can. Take an umbrella to the beach, sit under a tree at the park, or wear sunglasses and a hat. You can also find light long-sleeved clothing that doesn’t make you feel too hot in the summer.

Don’t Over-Shower

It’s true that being outside in the summer leads to increased sweating. Not only can the hotter temperatures cause this, but you’re probably more active anyway. You may feel compelled to shower more than once a day to stay fresh and clean. However, fight this temptation and stick with once-a-day bathing. Showering too often can harm your skin, including drying it out or causing redness and inflammation.

Change How Much and What Types of Skincare Products You Use

As the season changes, so should your moisturizing routines. Dermatologists advise people to choose lighter products. Rather than focusing on creams and cleansers, you should stick with gentler foams at this time of the year.

Choose the Right Sunscreen

This one is critical — not only for the way you look but for the health of your skin. A quality sunscreen is a must when you spend time outside in the summer, especially during the middle of the day. Although, not just any product will do. Place a premium on choosing a product with at least 30 SPF. This will help to prevent sunburn and types of skin cancer. Make sure to apply the product to all parts of your body exposed to the sun. And if you’re going to be outdoors for most of the day, you’ll need to reapply sunscreen every four to six hours.

While you’re having fun in the sun this summer, don’t neglect your precious skin. Keep that glow and hydration going all summer long!
