Croissant French Toast For Mother’s Day Brunch

Croissant

May is a time to celebrate Fête des Mères, or Mother’s Day as it is called in the United States. From flowers to greeting cards, there are many gifts people can give their moms in order to show their love. With this Croissant French Toast recipe from allrecipes, moms all over Texas can be transported back to France for a meal they are sure to enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 4 large croissants, halved horizontally, left out overnight
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup half-and-half (almond milk or low-fat milk can be substituted)
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions

Before beginning, the croissants must be properly prepared. This means halving them horizontally and allowing them to sit out overnight. As an alternative, they can be placed on a baking sheet and toasted in the oven at about 200 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are dry. They must be dry so they can be dipped.  At this point, depending on how the croissants were dried, the oven can either be left on at 200 degrees or preheated. Next, the eggs, half-and-half, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg should be whisked together in a shallow bowl. After that, each croissant must be dipped into the mixture and lightly pressed until each one is well coated. Once that is complete, it is necessary to melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat; then four croissant halves are added. They should be fried until they are browned on both sides, which will take about two or three minutes per side. Finally, when they are complete they can be served warm with Mom’s favorite toppings.

Breakfast in Bed

This Croissant French Toast recipe doesn’t have to wait until brunch. Some moms may prefer breakfast in bed as part of their day. When a celebratory morning meal is served with some juice, coffee, and maybe even a flower in a little vase, it can be extra special. Of course, it goes without saying, but it wouldn’t hurt to take care of a few household chores and other activities during the day that might make Mom happy.
