Baseball is the all-time American pastime. There is something special about watching a game on a warm summer night with friends. If you have yet to watch a baseball game this season, then be sure to put it on your to-do list before the summer ends. While there are many teams and leagues to keep up with, there is only on team to keep an eye on in Omaha – the Omaha Storm Chasers.
The Omaha Storm Chasers
The Omaha Storm Chasers are a Minor League Baseball team. They are classed as Triple-A Affiliate team. They are affiliated with the Kansas City Royals. As a Minor League team, the Storm Chasers play in the International League. The team was found in 1969 and played up until 2010 at the Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium. The team now calls Werner Park. The Storm Chasers don uniforms in colors described as royal blue, twister gold, blackout black.
Meet the Mascots
The Omaha Storm Chasers must have struggled to pick a mascot, so they ended up with a total of five. There is Casey the Blue Lion, Sue Nami, Sizzle, Vortex, and last but certainly not least, there is Stormy. As self-described, Casey is indeed a vibrant, royal blue lion. Casey was with the team when they were originally known as the Omaha Royals. While you may not see many tsunamis in Omaha, you can get your picture with Sue Nami, who is a green creature in an Omaha jersey and blue skirt. Her hair is made of rolling, crashing waves like that of a tsunami.
Highly regarded as a place for great steak, it is not surprising to see Omaha have a mascot named Sizzle, which look like a cut of rare T-bone steak with a cowboy hat on his head. Vortex resembles the team’s logo which is a tornado that has baseball stitching and nose made from a baseball bat. The true star of the Storm Chasers’ mascot lineup is Stormy. This green furry creature can be seen pumping up the crowd at every home game.
Theme Nights
While the game of baseball is enough to keep you entertained, there is plenty happening at Werner Park at every home game for a truly unforgettable evening. Some games have live music playing pre-game. On Sundays, kids can be allowed to run the bases when the game ends. Friday home games have brilliant firework shows. There are also nights devoted to a particular theme such as Christmas in July, Marvel’s Defenders of the Diamond, Faith & Family Night, and more. You even can bring your fur baby to Bark in the Park.
