The Renaissance. It was a time of great innovation in world history, and the epicenter of it all began in the heart of Italy. Scientific breakthroughs. Enduring art. And novel inventions. So, it’s no surprise that some of the tastiest food on earth also comes from Italy. Lucky for those of us in Omaha, we can find true Italian food at Pasta Amore right here at home.
Sicilian Roots
Chef Calgero Lillo “Leo” Fascianella opened Pasta Amore in 1986. And in case you don’t already know his story, wait until you hear about this visionary Omaha-area Italian restauranteur. He was born in San Cataldo, Sicily in 1956. After immigrating to America with his parents in 1972, Leo bounced around a few places, working in New York, Las Vegas, and Chicago. He finally landed in Omaha, where he became the chef at The Golden Apple. A little later, of course, he opened Pasta Amore.
A Palette For Your Palate
Our guess is that the name Leo might invoke the names of Michelangelo, da Vinci, and other masters as perfect comparisons to his own craft. After all, he referred to his fine dining as “edible paintings” and he kept that concept in mind when presenting his fare to guests. The white plates and white tablecloths were his canvas. Leo has since retired, but the current owners carry on the same traditions and excellence that Leo instilled at Pasta Amore.
