Make Your Own Christmas Ornaments

ornament

One of the most iconic symbols of the holiday season is your Christmas tree. It radiates with beauty, donning lights, garland, a topper – whatever you choose for yours. And of course, the finishing touch is your ornaments. Many of yours may be store-bought, souvenirs, or arts & crafts, but they all add something special to your tree. While you may have some homemade ones already, perhaps you want to make your own Christmas ornaments for this year’s tree. Here are some ideas that you might like.

Origami Stars

Not only are these easy to make, but they’re absolutely beautiful. You can make them from anything – magazines, sheet music, scrapbook paper – anything. You could make one, or you could string up quite a few. Your possibilities are endless.

Cinnamon Dough Ornaments

Would you believe that something you make out of applesauce and cinnamon could last for years? But it can. They smell divine and look appetizing. Our suggestion is that you hang them up higher on your tree – away from pets and smaller children.

Beaded Christmas Ornaments

You might not know it to look at them, but beaded Christmas ornaments are quite easy to make. Best of all, you can simply change the directions up to make the ornaments the right size for you. Here are the materials you’ll need to get started:

  • A piece of 12 count (12 holes per inch) tapestry canvas
  • Some seed beads – size 9, 10 and 11 will all work fine
  • White thread
  • An embroidery needle
  • DK wool
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors

More Origami

If origami is your thing, there’s plenty of it here. One particular Christmas ornament calls for wrapping paper, which makes it particularly festive. In fact, it’s so easy to make, all  you need is your wrapping paper, an adhesive such as glue or tape, and then something to hang it – ribbon is always a nice touch. Another nice decoration is the origami wreath. All it takes is eight easy steps and you can create a beautiful wreath that’s absolutely perfect for the holiday season.
