Whether you’re looking for a few fun day trips or a destination you can enjoy for the whole break, consider these nearby vacation ideas.

Head Out for a Day Trip

Omaha is surrounded by beautiful sites and scenic destinations, so now’s the perfect time to hop in the car and hit the road. There are all kinds of fun attractions and adventures within driving distance of the city, so whether you’re looking for a serene break with natural surroundings or an exciting town to explore, there’s bound to be something fun just down the road. In the Fontenelle Forest, a boardwalk winds its way through shady trees, and in Lincoln, the Sunken Gardens are bound to bloom for spring with a vibrant array of colors. If you head to Council Bluffs, you could check out River’s Edge Park, Lake Manawa State Park with its Dream Playground, or the Union Pacific Museum.

Take a Hike

Spring break is a great time to get out for some fresh air, as flowers start to bloom and verdant green leaves return to the trees and plant life around Omaha. For a closer walk with nature, you could stroll the paved pathways of Lauritzen Gardens, or the Hummel Park Nature Center with its picturesque trails fit for hiking or running. At Platte River State Park over in Louisville, you can explore the trails, take in the view from the observation towers, and even relax with the peaceful babble of the park’s waterfall. At Heron Haven, trails are open from sunrise to sundown each day, allowing you to hike through a biodiverse wetland sanctuary.

If you want to spend a few days away from the city, there are plenty of places nearby where you can rent a cabin for your escape.
